Heading to Braids this week
Rockin’ Bands & Braids is a conference put on by the American Kumihimo Society and features many renowned teachers in the art of creating bands. I am taking four classes- Lucet, Tablet Weaving & Design, Aso-Oke Weaving & Mapuche Inspired band weaving. My local guild, Las Arañas, awarded my a partial scholarship which is making this happen. The teachers that I will be learning from are Ziggy Rytka, John Mullarkey, & Jennifer Williams.
I have been preparing for the past two week by warping my travel inkle, pracitcing with a lucet (I am not very good and don’t love this, yet) trying to remember the trick to warping a tablet loom and gathering tools, and supplies and making them fit in my suitcase. I am super excited and will report here when I return.
We are staying at Case Western Reserve University which is close to the museum and botanic garden. We are also planning a trip to Praxis which is a Fiber Arts Center that my friend Cael has fashioned Fiber Arts on Fourth after.
This conference only happens every three years and I am excited to be able to attend.
More soon!
